A sort of ultra-contagious plague that is decimating businesses. Her name ?<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>micro management<\/strong> .<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"definition-of-micro-management\"><\/span>Definition of micro-management<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n<p>Micro-management is the <strong>manager who follows you closely<\/strong> , the one who doesn&#8217;t let go of you, who <strong>wants to know your every action, deed and gesture<\/strong> . It&#8217;s the manager who tells you what to do, how to do it, without leaving any liberties. It&#8217;s sort of the manager Tomtom, this GPS that tells you to constantly turn around, that doesn&#8217;t try to understand, that annoys you very, very quickly&#8230;<\/p>\n\n<p>It is in fact a <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reactive-executive.com\/en\/the-4-types-of-management-what-are-they-which-one-to-choose\/\"><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);color:#ff0000\" class=\"has-inline-color\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">management technique<\/span><\/mark><\/a><\/strong> that is not based on the basic principles of the manager\/employee relationship.<\/p>\n\n<p>Micro-management ignores the trust that a manager can and should place in his collaborators. Similarly, he lacks the humility to regularly question himself, and see what his collaborators can bring him in terms of human relations, managerial methods, etc.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"incompatible-with-interim-management\"><\/span>Incompatible with Interim Management<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reactive-executive.com\/en\/management-de-transition-2\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Interim management calls on men and women who<\/span><\/a><\/strong> are in total agreement with their teams. Their <strong>human values<\/strong> , beyond the admiration they provoke, are the fuel of revolutionary management.<\/p>\n\n<p>Basically, interim managers rely on their employees. They care about the well-being at work of their team, and the impact on their productivity.<\/p>\n\n<p>However, micro-management <strong>is absolutely not a source of well-being at work<\/strong> . After all, we often unwittingly copy the techniques of those who trained us. Micro-management, especially in France, is part of our heritage. French perfectionism!<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>The fight against micromanagement<\/strong> starts with recognizing this tendency. Here are some clues:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>You are unable to fully delegate a task,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You request reports on all actions in progress,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You find it difficult to complete your tasks because you manage those of your collaborators simultaneously,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You want your teams to think like you,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You never trust your employees,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Manager becomes a burden because nothing is accomplished according to your criteria,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You feel a <a href=\"https:\/\/staging.reactive2026.lets-preprod.com\/en\/when-to-return-to-work-after-a-burnout\/\"><strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);color:#ff0000\" class=\"has-inline-color\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">burn-out<\/span><\/mark><\/strong><\/a> , by excessive workload.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>These are just a few criteria, but they are very common among micro-managers.<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>To fight, you have to accept change.  <\/strong>Accept the idea that the method used for maybe years is wrong. One of the fundamental criteria is to learn to delegate.<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>Delegating does not mean abandoning<\/strong> a task. This does not represent the subtraction of a task from your specifications.<\/p>\n\n<p>It is rather to give his confidence to a collaborator, who will take care of this activity because he has the skills.<\/p>\n\n<p>Sometimes delegating remains too difficult because the stakes are high. But a seasoned manager (what our interim managers are) is an outstanding trainer.<\/p>\n\n<p>Quality training, before moving on to the \u201cdelegation\u201d stage, allows the manager to solidify his teams, to delegate, and therefore increases productivity. Delegating is an art. An art requires practice and refinement.<\/p>\n\n<p>This also implies that the manager is constantly listening to the ideas of his collaborators. Training is not a time when the manager teaches others to do exactly as he does. No one has a monopoly on the good idea!<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"a-need-for-appreciation\"><\/span>A need for appreciation<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n<p>So that the employees of a company are not discouraged by micro-management, the appreciation of the work of all is necessary.<\/p>\n\n<p>A <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reactive-executive.com\/en\/how-to-be-a-good-manager\/\"><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);color:#ff0000\" class=\"has-inline-color\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">good manager<\/span><\/mark><\/a><\/strong> is a manager who <strong>congratulates his teams for their quality work<\/strong> . Relevant and detailed feedback will help them improve where needed.<\/p>\n\n<p>True appreciation, however, is not what one would expect from an annual appraisal. It is not the semblance of obligatory listening that meets the need for appreciation.<\/p>\n\n<p>A manager who takes the time to spend time with his collaborators and to discuss things other than the urgent projects in progress, will be an accessible manager who is appreciated for his <strong>human qualities<\/strong> .
